An aging workforce, an aging population, market forces, health services reform, and numerous other factors mean constant changes in the requirements for health human resources.  These changes can only be addressed through logical planning and forecasting.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Workforce Planning Unit (originally called the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Human Resource Planning Unit) was established in 1999 to build a solid base of data and research upon which projections and key human resource policy decisions could be made.  The Workforce Planning Unit represents a partnership agreement between the Provincial Government's Department of Health and Community Services and the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Boards Association.  The purpose of this website is to disseminate key reports, support specific projects, and maintain staff contact information.

The Workforce Planning Unit relies on several stakeholder groups for information, and wishes to acknowledge important contributions from the following:

  • Provincial Government and the Department of Health and Community Services

  • Newfoundland and Labrador Health Boards Association

  • Health Professional Associations

  • Provincial Regional Health Authorities

  • Educational Institutions

  • Unions

  • Numerous other individuals including Physicians, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, and staff from all levels of various organizations

  • Human Resources and Social Development Canada
