Welcome to Roddickton

Roddickton was named by Sir Wilfred Grenfell in honour of his friend and ardent supporter, Dr. Sir Thomas Roddick of McGill University. It is a town of about 1,200 people, located 10 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean in sheltered and very scenic Canada Bay.
Due to the countless number of moose in the immediate area, the Town Council has declared the town of Roddickton "The Moose Capital of the World." It is not uncommon to see moose eating low brush and tree tips on lawns, in back yards, or along the streets throughout the town at most any time of day or night. For this reason extreme care and caution must be taken when travelling in and through the Roddickton area.
The beautiful "Tickles" inland waterway
with
its fast moving tides provides a remarkable experience and an excellent trouting
area. Fish for Atlantic Salmon on one of several licensed rivers, or spend
a day hiking the nearby mountains. You may even see a large iceberg
aground in Roddicktion harbour during a late spring day.
There are numerous hiking trails where you can enjoy bird watching, berry picking, or just sit and watch some of the thousands of moose and other wildlife pass by just feet away. Winter is a prime time to enjoy the Roddickton area with hundreds of skiing and snowmobiling trails, which can quickly take you into areas of pristine wilderness or lakes and ponds teeming with trout.
Roddickton's scenery is simply breath taking. With cloud mountain in the backdrop and its reflection in the lakes and rivers beneath it, the area is excellent for salmon fishing, boat tours, whale watching and hiking in the summer months. Snowmobiling and ice fishing are two main activities in the winter months.
