WELCOME TO PORT SAUNDERS

Town of Port Saunders

Like most of the towns on the Northern Pennisula, the town of Port Saunders have a number of attractions.

One attraction is the lighthouse on Kepple Island. The lighthouse was a kerosene burning lighthouse when it was first built in 1901. The island itself was a Spanish burial ground and later French settlers built houses on the island.

Another attraction is the scenic boardwalk. The boardalk was constructed in the summer 97. When completed it will be a total of two kilometers in length. It offers a great walking trail as well as spectacular scenery.

Port Saunders is surrounded by three major salmon rivers all of which are within 10km of the town.

Yet another attraction in Port Saunders is the waterfront area. The waterfront in Port Saunders reflect the main income and the hard working nature of the people of Port Saunders. The waterfront is comprised of boats tied to private wharfs lined with lobster pots and nets.

Last but certainly not least to be mentioned is the Demonstration forest trail. The trail was built by students in summer programs in the past three years. The trail is a demonstration of the different types of trees that grow in Newfoundland.

Along with attractions in Port Saunders itself; Port Saunders is neighbors to three National Historic Parks.

Port au Choix National Park
L'ance aux Meadows National Historic Site
Gros Morne National Park
