The Town of Gander is located in central Newfoundland and is a major service centre for the area. The community is situated on the Trans Canada Highway with access to deep water ports in just 30 minutes.
As its name would lead you believe, Gander is an airport town that developed as a result of its location - the last stop for fuel between North America and Europe. The town is proud of its airport history; the streets are named for famous aviators - like Armstrong, Earhart, and Wright. Gander is also the best place in Newfoundland to see the fabulously rich and famous (Brian Tobin excluded). Needing a stretch and a breath of fresh air from their long flights, stars such as Brooke Shields are known to deplane and take a walk around the town.
