Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre

A 44-bed, fully accredited, non-denominational facility which employs 130 staff.  It is the only medical facility within a 170 kilometer radius.  As a result, its mandate includes the provision of acute, long term care and outreach services to the entire southwest coast of Newfoundland , serving a catchment population of 12,000 - 13,000 with Lapoile and Rose Blanch in the southeast to South Branch in the north.  There are fourteen (14) acute care beds, which include two (2) intensive care/monitoring beds, pediatrics, obstetrics, medical and surgical care.  The thirty (30) long term care beds include four (4) beds which are used for short term respite care, and slow paced rehabilitation.  The Centre is responsible for the medical clinics in Doyles, Lapoile and Rose Blanche staffed by both physicians and public health nurses. It is also responsible for a twenty-one (21) apartment senior’s building and twenty (20) senior’s cottages.

Some services include: acute and long-term care; chemotherapy; diagnostic services; dietary; emergency services; family physician; inpatient services; obstetrics; primary care; regular satellite clinics to surrounding communities.  The Centre is also a host for the Primary health Enhancement Project for the province, with state-of-the-art video conferencing capabilities.
