An
80-bed acute care facility providing a full range of services to its population
base and is a referral centre for other sites in the region. The scope of
services include: General Medicine, Internal Medicine, General Surgery,
including: laparoscopic surgery (in-patient and out-patient), obstetrics,
gynaecology, gastroenterology, anesthesiology, radiology, pathology, ear, nose
and throat, palliative care, and a community-based psychiatry service.
Additional specialty medical services are provided by visiting consultants in
paediatrics, neurology, nephrology and ophthalmology. An ambulatory care
unit provides both surgical and medical day care procedures, including stress
testing, holter monitoring, endoscopy, chemotherapy, and dental surgery.
The 6-bed intensive care unit has the capability for invasive and non-invasive
monitoring, including remote telemetry. The emergency department operates
an ambulance service, staffed by paramedics, to Carbonear and the immediate
surrounding area. There is a full range of in-patient and out-patient
allied health services including; social work, physiotherapy, occupational
therapy, respiratory therapy, clinical nutrition, speech language pathology,
pharmacy, and pastoral care. Diagnostic services include: Laboratory,
