Brookfield Hospital

Hospitalization in the Brookfield area began with the construction of Brookfield Cottage Hospital, which was opened in 1944. At the time the hospital consisted of two wards with a total of 18 beds. In 1959 there was an addition of two wards to the hospital, increasing the total beds to 37.

During the early 1960's the hospital underwent a further expansion with the addition of the present out-patient area and general office. During 1978, a number of renovations were made, reducing capacity from 37 to 30 beds.

During late 1988 a further expansion was undertaken and this involved a new x-ray room, a new lobby and installation of an elevator as well as interior changes to the in-patient area of the hospital. In 1996 a new ambulatory care wing was built. The present bed capacity is 12.

Bonnews Lodge is a 44 bed long term care facility.  Brookfield Hospital is a 12 bed acute care facility with emergency , outpatient and diagnostic services . Health care delivery encompasses a geographic area of Hare Bay to Carmanville provides accessability of services to a population of 10,000.
